Consultation has concluded

This consultation will be open from 09 December 2022 to 20 January 2023.

The Council is legally obliged to balance its budget and we are now trying to set it for 2023/24.

The COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the cost of living crisis have caused significant financial problems for the Council, compounding the funding challenges of the preceding years of austerity.

We are currently budgeting a deficit of £1.4 million for 2023/24, which will rise to £7.4 million by 2028/29 if left unmanaged. We need to determine how the council can increase income and/or reduce costs to ensure the Council remains financially stable.

Over the last 2 years we have balanced our budget using our remaining reserves, although by year-end it was not necessary to draw down from reserves. We must decide how to reduce this deficit and would like to hear the views of as many residents as possible, as well as businesses and local interest groups, to help inform our decision making.

Further financial details are available on the Council’s Transparency pages on the website.
